Fundació d’Oncología Infantil Enriqueta Villavecchia
The Enriqueta Villavecchia Foundation for Child Oncology, based in Barcelona, has been dedicated since 1989 to improving the quality of life of children and young people with serious illnesses, providing comprehensive support to both patients and their families.
In 2024, the foundation began construction of the Victoria Pavilion, which will be the first pediatric hospice in Spain. It will be located in the Santa Victoria Pavilion at the Sant Pau Modernist Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This pioneering center will offer specialized pediatric palliative care, including respite stays, supportive therapies, and end-of-life and bereavement support. The building’s restoration, led by architect Carme Pinós, will preserve its historical value and involve an investment of €6.5 million.
The Victoria Pavilion will be part of the Comprehensive Pediatric Palliative Care Network of Catalonia and will be managed by Sant Pau Hospital, with the support of the Government of Catalonia. It is expected to serve more than 400 families per year, offering a warm and welcoming environment that prioritizes the well-being of children and provides essential support for their loved ones.

ALPE Foundation for Achondroplasia
The ALPE Foundation for Achondroplasia is a non-profit organization founded on January 24, 2000, in Gijón, Spain, by Carmen Alonso, Miguel López, and the Press-Lewis family. Its main goal is to improve the quality of life of people with achondroplasia and other skeletal dysplasias that cause dwarfism, through a comprehensive approach that includes health, education, social inclusion, and advocacy.
From its headquarters in Gijón, ALPE provides free international services, including medical evaluations, psychological counseling, educational guidance, and legal support. It also promotes scientific research, organizes international conferences, and develops training programs such as “ADEE Experts”, aimed at empowering patients and families with up-to-date information and practical tools.
The foundation has also played a key role in raising awareness and combating stereotypes associated with dwarfism, launching campaigns such as “Achondroplasia Without Clichés” and actively participating in legal reforms to ban degrading entertainment in Spain.
In 2025, ALPE celebrates its 25th anniversary, affirming its position as an international benchmark in the defense of the rights and dignity of people with achondroplasia and other skeletal dysplasias.
